Imagine getting a huge savings, nearly 50%, on the highest-quality cannabis products available in Washington State every time you shop.

Thanks to a new State Law (HB 1453), all products sold by medically-endorsed cannabis retailers to medically-authorized patients will be eligible for an excise tax exemption of 37%. This, combined with a sales tax exemption of 10%, means medical patients could save nearly 50% on every transaction, before any retail discounts. 

Heylo and Treehaus Products Are DOH-Compliant

Since Heylo was founded in 2017 the team has taken pride in producing products that are as close to the plant as possible. This extends to the cleanliness of our products. We’ve always sourced pesticide-free, sustainably-grown full-bud flower for our oils. And while Heylo oil has always been medical-grade, we have not sought medical-certification, until now. 

The new excise tax exemption for DOH-compliant products means Heylo has the economic incentive to certify all of our products. And as of May 2024, that’s exactly what we’ve done. 

Why DOH Compliance Matters

For those unfamiliar with the regulations, being DOH-compliant means that our products meet the most-stringent standards set by the state for medical cannabis. This includes adhering to specific requirements outlined in chapter 246-70 WAC (Washington Administrative Code), ensuring that patients receive products of the highest quality and safety.

The decision to exempt medical cannabis products from excise tax is a significant win for patients and providers alike. It acknowledges the importance of medical cannabis in managing various health conditions and ensures that patients have access to the treatments they need without facing unnecessary financial burdens.
